Criminal mischief. A Hunters Ridge employee headed out to the community's maintenance barn at about noon on Feb. 6 to secure the barn for an approaching storm.

But when he arrived, he found that the barn had already been damaged — and not by an act of nature. Someone had used a pair of pruning shears to cut their way through the gate, smashed in two windows at the front of the shed with one of the community's shovels and sprayed graffiti across the shed.

The miscreant must have been young, judging by the very small size of the shoe prints left in the mud at the scene, the employee told a deputy when reporting the crime on Feb. 8.

Nothing appeared to have been stolen, but the damage cost about $600 to repair.

Loitering/prowling. An employee at a security remote monitoring company for a car dealership noticed someone in all black loitering in the dealership's service area, and contacted the Sheriff's Office.

A deputy arrived, saw motion near an SUV, and shined a light that direction. Someone in a hooded blue sweatshirt took off running toward the front of the business, and the deputy tried to head him off at the front, but missed him — he'd slipped through some bushes and headed out the back.

When the deputy returned to the location where the loiterer had been spotted, the deputy found a tire iron hanging off a lug nut on the SUV, and a bag containing a jack and power drill in the front passenger seat.
