Slow-speed chase

3:53 p.m. State Road 100 near Water Oak Road

Fleeing and eluding, driving on a suspended license. A deputy was stopped at S.R. 100 near Water Oak Road when a car passed by, doing 39 mph in the 60-mph zone.

The deputy pulled behind the car and ran its plate, and saw that the registered owner didn't have a valid driver's license. The deputy tried to pull the car over.

The driver activated his hazard lights but kept going for about 7 miles, at one point swerving around a set of stop sticks that deputies laid out to pierce his tires. A second set of stop sticks stopped him, and deputies arrested him.

A moment of honesty

7:26 p.m. Old Kings Road at Matanzas Woods Parkway

Driving on a suspended license; possession of alcohol while under the age of 21. Multiple people called the Sheriff's Office after seeing a blue pickup truck speed by and then crash into the woodline. A deputy arrived and found the truck, with its 19-year-old driver standing by with minor injuries.

A witness said that after the young man had crashed, he'd jumped out of the truck and said, "I have to get this stuff out of here before they get here."

"This stuff" turned out to be four or five beers and a 12-pack of alcoholic iced tea that deputies found when checking the car, plus a baggie of marijuana deputies discovered when the man tried to enter the county jail with it after they arrested him.
