BMW recovered moments after being reported stolen — but in a retention pond

12:36 a.m. First block of Old Kings Road North. Stolen vehicle: A 21-year-old man went bowling, but when he got out of the bowling alley in the early morning hours, his BMW, a 2008 four-door worth about $17,000, according to a Sheriff's Office report. The man called 911, but as a deputy was entering the missing car in national and state crime databases, the Sheriff's Office got a teletype from the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office that they found the car — in a retention pond. The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office had the car towed and called the man to come get it.
