Keepin’ the change

1:45 p.m. 100 block of Bud Hollow Drive. Larceny, motor vehicle.
A man called the Sheriff’s Office and said someone had broken into his pickup truck and stolen $280 in cash and change.

The man said he’d been staying with a friend on the 100 block of Bud Hollow Drive. He heard his dogs barking at night but didn’t see anyone. In the morning, though, he realized $20 in change was missing from the center compartment.

He said he was sure he’d locked the truck but didn’t notice any signs of forced entry, and nothing was broken.

Later, he said, he realized $260 was missing from his wallet. He thought that money was probably stolen by whoever took the change.

Sawed off

5 p.m. 300 bloc of Cypress Edge Drive. Larceny.
A loss-prevention officer at a local hardware store saw a man walk into the store’s plumbing department, shove four saw chain boxes into his jacket, and then walk out through the garden department without paying.

The loss-prevention officer stopped the man and held him at the store’s manager’s office, and he called the Sheriff’s Office.

The saw chain boxes were worth a total of $109.92 before taxes.

A deputy issued the thief a notice to appear, and then released him.
