Headed off by a headboard

8:34 a.m. First block of Bruning Lane. Residential burglary.

A resident reported an attempted burglary around 12-1 a.m., after hearing a bang outside her house.

She didn’t find the noise suspicious at the time, but the next morning, she noticed that the screen on one of the home’s bedroom windows had been removed and the window had been pried open.

The deputy noted that a headboard from a bed in the room was resting against the window sill, and the bang the witness heard probably came from the window slamming into it. The bed also blocked the wanna-be intruder’s entry into the home.

No fingerprints were found, but the deputy swabbed for touch DNA. A neighbor said she saw two men walking in the direction of the victim’s home that night, but the lighting was too dim to see them well.

No reason to get egg-cited

8:55 a.m. First block of Undermouth Path East. Criminal mischief.

A resident on Undermount Path East woke up to find that his home and two cars had been egged overnight.

The egging must have happened sometime 12-8 a.m., the victim said, adding that he believed his neighbors across the street, who he’d had conflicts with in the past, were the perpetrators.

The neighbors admitted to being involved in past incidents but denied the egging. The victim was still yet to review security footage from cameras set up outside his home at the time of the report.

Screened out

11:49 a.m. First block of Bickshire Lane. Suspicious incident.

A woman on Bickshire Lane noticed tire marks outside her home and a screen removed from a bedroom window, and when a deputy arrived, he found deep tire marks along the east side of the home leading to the back yard. He also found a pry mark on the lower part of the bedroom window.

A neighbor said he’d noticed a sedan pull into the driveway and around to the back of the house Friday after the woman left and assumed she was having work done.

No fingerprints or smudges were found. The deputy noted that a similar incident occurred Nov. 22 on Longfellow Drive.
