Fleeing criminal stumbles across group of retired cops, gets busted

7:51 p.m. Southbound Interstate 95 near Mile Marker 287

Fleeing and eluding. A 23-year-old man fled a Highway Patrol traffic stop on I-95, crashed his car, dashed into the woods, then emerged in the worst (for him) possible place: In the parking lot of a hotel where a group of retired law enforcement officers were chatting.

The retired officers noticed the commotion and detained the man until Highway Patrol troopers arrived to arrest him.

The man's driver's license had been revoked for multiple violations, the troopers found. They arrested the man on multiple charges.

Salted pot

Someone called the county dispatch center to report a suspicious package on the beach. The package turned out to be a load of marijuana, wrapped in plastic, about 1 foot square.

The pot itself was soaked in seawater and covered in marine growth. Deputies took it into evidence.
