Bad haul

6:49 p.m. 6900 block of U.S. 1

Grand theft of a motor vehicle. A deputy got a "be-on-the-lookout" alert about a stolen vehicle — a U-Haul truck that had disappeared from its lot in Daytona Beach.

When a U-Haul truck drove past the deputy on U.S. 1, the deputy took a look at the tag and confirmed that it was the missing moving truck, and stopped it.

A man was driving, and a woman was in the passenger seat. They said that they were homeless and had decided to rip off a U-Haul truck and drive around town "because it beat staying on the street."

The man didn't have a driver's license. The deputy arrested them.

Anti-mask shoplifters get caught on video

9:23 p.m. 100 block of Flagler Plaza Drive.

Retail theft. Two men walked into a liquor store not wearing face masks. An employee told them he wouldn't serve them until they masked up.

The unmasked men argued with the employee.

One of the men tried to pull his T-shirt up over his face. The employee said that wouldn't suffice.

The men left, then returned wearing masks, but still arguing.

One asked for a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka. But as he took out his wallet to pay, he again began complaining about the mask policy.

The employee told the man he wouldn't sell him the vodka, and to get out of the store.

The man grabbed the $45 bottle of vodka and ran. The employee called 911.

The store had surveillance footage and provided it to the Sheriff's Office.
