I was born a gamblin’ man
9:43 a.m. — 3000 Block of Garden Street North. Fraud. A victim advised that he and his wife were leaving a hotel when they were approached by five or six white males in their 30s. One of the males, who appeared to be the leader of the group, approached the victim and brought him to a card table located in the rear of the parking lot away from the hotel. The suspect explained the “three-card monty” game and asked the victim if he wanted to play.

At this point, the victim pulled $802 from his pocket and handed it to the unknown male. The suspect and victim played the game; then the suspect handed him back $2 and started to walk away. Some of the men stepped in and distracted the man’s wife while another man distracted the victim, so that the male with the money walked away. The males then all separated and left in an unknown direction.

After contacting dispatchers, it was found that this group is experienced and are targeting bikers visiting from out of state. The victim was advised not to participate in any more such activities.

8:03 p.m. — 100 Block of Cypress Point Parkway. Larceny-Shoplifting. An employee stated that he observed two females select several items from the store and conceal them in a purse. They attempted to exit the store, passing all points of sale without paying for the items. They were confronted and escorted to the loss prevention office, where $305.45 worth of merchandise was found to be concealed.

The girls were advised that if they called their parents they would be able to go home without law enforcement getting involved. One girl called her father and was picked up; the other called a sister, who attempted to impersonate her mother, at which point law enforcement was contacted and she was arrested for retail theft and transported to the inmate facility. She was later released to her mother’s custody.
