Flagler County's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) will host its free, nationally certified training program starting on Sept. 20.

The program teaches disaster preparedness and disaster medical skills, fire safety, light search and rescue and team organization, according to a news release from the county government.

“The program as an invaluable partnership between the community and professional first responders,” Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said, according to the news release. “CERT allows our residents to train with subject matter experts. Previous experience is not necessary – just a desire to learn and help others.”

The 30-hour course will meet from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Flagler County Emergency Operations Center from Sept. 20 through Oct. 20.

Registration is required. Register by going to FlaglerCounty.gov/emergency and selecting “Volunteering & Training” from the menu. Those without internet access can register by calling 386-313-4200.
