Commissioner Joe Mullins said in a phone interview on Nov. 19 that the Trump meme that appeared on his personal Facebook account during a County Commission meeting on Nov. 18 was actually scheduled by his marketing team in advance. He said he didn't post on Facebook during the meeting.

In fact, he said, most of his posts are scheduled in advance. "I do post some," he said, "but if I post them or not, I don't need anybody telling me how to be a commissioner."

If anyone sees Mullins using his phone during County Commission meetings, he said he is taking notes or looking up things that are relevant to the meeting.

"I've got eight different companies," he said. "I'm used to multitasking."

Original story:

At 6:40 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, Flagler County Commissioner Joe Mullins was on the dais at the commission meeting in Bunnell. That's just where he was supposed be.

But when he also posted a pro-Trump meme on Facebook during the meeting, some of his Facebook followers took exception.

The meme has this headline: "I'm sick of the Dems saying Trump is inappropriate." It then lists many grievances against Democratic leaders of the recent past. Along with the meme, Mullins posted: "Based on what the radical liberals seem to approve of. I'm not sure there not trying to make Trump the greatest President ever themselves! Flagler Republican Party and Flagler4Trump and Republican Club of Port Orange and all our conservatives. We will get Trump 4 more years."

In response, several people rallied for Trump. Others weren't as impressed:

Kristina Marie How about you not Facebook during the commission meetings?

Heather Whitley Beaven Joe you posted this while being paid to govern the county for the good of all citizens. May I suggest you follow the Richard Corcoran “No texting while legislating” rule. What was on the agenda at 6:40?

The Facebook account "Joe F Mullins" has a parenthetical note: "(Official Personal acct)." Mullins also has an account for official county business: "Joe Mullins - Flagler County."
