Sheriff Donald Fleming said the Sheriff’s Office has joined the Volusia 100 Club.

The club helps families to pay for funerals and other arrangements when law-enforcement officers die in the line of duty. The Sheriff’s Office will pay $100 per year to be part of the organization.

“That’s the kind of check that you never want to get something in return for,” Fleming said. “But it’s nice to know you have it, in the back of your mind.”

The organization, which is almost exclusively based in Volusia County, has given more than $40,000 to families since 2005.
