City of Palm Coast announces 25 activities for April 2021

The Palm Coast Aquatics Center opens on April 5!

“We know our community has greatly missed the Palm Coast Aquatics Center this last year and we are so grateful to be opening it for the season on April 5,” said Parks & Recreation Director Lauren Johnston. “The pool is essential to providing life-saving swim lessons and an important source of recreation and wellness to our residents.”

Swim lessons, Aqua Zumba, Water Aerobics, Fitness on the Water, and more are returning as well. See a list of all recreational activities, including aquatics, at  www.palmcoastconnect.com/s/parks-and-rec.

Special Events for April:

April 5 and 19 – Teddy Bear Picnic – Mondays, April 5 and 19, 10-11am at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. This is an interactive program where toddlers are invited to bring their favorite teddy bear to playfully-themed outings that include a snack, a story, and a game or craft! Closer to the date, make sure to check our online catalog to find out each picnic’s theme and embrace them to make this experience truly special. For ages 3-5 years. April 5 through 28 – Aqua Zumba® (Session 1 Mon/Wed) – Mondays and Wednesdays, April 5-28, 6:30-7:30 p.m. at Palm Coast Aquatics Center, 339 Parkview Drive. Aqua Zumba® blends the Zumba® philosophy with water resistance, for one pool party you shouldn’t miss! There is less impact on your joints during an Aqua Zumba® class, so you can really let loose. April 6 – Caregiver Support Group – Tuesday, April 6, 11:30am-12:10pm at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. Presented in partnership with Brookdale Palm Coast. When caring for an aging parent or spouse, you may feel like no one understands what you’re experiencing. Join our Caregiver Support Group, and take a break with other caregivers. April's meeting will feature Debbie from Senior Services, to showcase the resources they have available, as well as Robin Patrowicz, PG, JD, CSA, CDP, an elder law attorney, senior advocate, and owner of RP Senior Services who can address the issues of documents. April 7 – Our Neck of the Woods – Wednesday, April 7, 10-11am at Linear Park, 31 Greenway Court. Discover the treasures hidden throughout Linear Park! Through the use of story time, crafts, nature walks, and the occasional critter meet-and-greet, this program will augment your child’s cognitive learning, communication skills, and hand-eye coordination. April 7 through 30 – Water Aerobics (Spring Session 1) – Wednesdays and Fridays, April 7-30, 9-10am at Palm Coast Aquatics Center, 339 Parkview Dr. Combine aerobics with strength training in our Water Aerobics class! Moving your body through the water creates a resistance that will activate muscle groups without impacting your joints. For ages 13+ years. $45/session or $8/class. April 9 – Book Club: Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem – Friday, April 9, 10:30-11:30am at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. Do you love to read? Each month will have a designated genre – April’s is Murder, Mystery, and Mayhem. You select and purchase a book that falls within the monthly category. April 9 – Movies in the Park – Friday, April 9, 8-10pm at Central Park in Town Center, 975 Central Ave. Bring your blanket, lawn chairs, snacks, and your friends and neighbors to join you at this monthly, free, family activity. Relax and enjoy an “oldie but goodie” or a recent hit as we watch movies on the giant, outdoor movie screen. Don’t forget your bug spray! Free. April 11 – Volleyball Tournament – Sunday, April 11, 8am-4pm at Indian Trails Middle School, 5505 Belle Terre Pkwy. April 12 through May 6 – Preschool Aquatics Level 1 (Spring Sessions 1 & 2) – Monday-Thursday, Session 1: April 12-22, 1-1:30pm; Session 2: April 26-May 6, 1-1:30pm at Palm Coast Aquatics Center, 339 Parkview Dr. Participants will be introduced to the basic skills needed to achieve a minimum level of water competency. Skills introduced include, but are not limited to the following: how to safely enter and exit the pool, floating on front and back, treading water, and swimming on front and back. April 12 through May 6 – Learn to Swim Level 1 (Spring Sessions 1 & 2) – Monday-Thursday, Session 1: April 12-22, 6:15-6:45pm; Session 2: April 26-May 6, 5:45-6:15pm at Palm Coast Aquatics Center, 339 Parkview Dr. Participants will learn basic water skills and water safety. Level 1 training includes: how to safely enter and exit the pool, floating on front/back, treading water, swimming on front and back, retrieving submerged objects, and rolling from front to back. April 13 – Bellies & Babies – Tuesday, April 13, 4-5pm at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. A gathering for new mothers and moms-to-be, Bellies and Babies is designed to support women during pregnancy, new motherhood, and breastfeeding. Go from feeling unsure to I got this, all while building friendships in a supportive environment. April 16 – Lunch N’ Lecture ft. “Decrease Stress” with Florida Health Care Plans– Friday, April 16, 11am-12:30pm at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. Positive and negative stress is a constant influence in our lives. We will discuss how to maximize the positive stress and to minimize the negative stress. April 16 – Youth Round Robin Tennis – Friday, April 16, 5-7pm at Palm Coast Tennis Center, 1290 Belle Terre Pkwy. Come compete in timed rounds in a fun-filled Juniors Round Robin Tournament. Join us for some fun junior tennis! Players should wear athletic clothing, sneakers, and a hat/visor and bring a refillable water bottle. For ages 11-17. $5/player. April 17 through May 20 – Munchkin Soccer (Toddler Session 4 and 5) Session 4: Saturdays, April 17-May 15, 9:30-10:15am; Session 5: Thursdays, April 22-May 20, 4-4:45 p.m. at Holland Park, 18 Florida Park Drive, Palm Coast. This 5-week, child-with-parent, program teaches an organized sport that highlights sequential directions and gross motor skills necessary to play soccer. April 17 – Palm Coast Historical Society Speaker Series: Waging War on the Mosquito Menace – Saturday, April 17, 10am-11am at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. Dr. Gordon Patterson is a specialist in environmental history with a research focus on vector control and the history of mosquito control. April 20 – Food Truck Tuesday – Tuesday, April 20, 5-8pm at Central Park in Town Center, 975 Central Ave. Head on down to Central Park for food, fun, and community. Free entertainment along with gourmet food available for purchase from a variety of specialty food trucks. April 24 – Paddle Long Creek – Saturday, April 24, 8-10am at Long Creek Nature Preserve, 1050 Palm Coast Pkwy. Join us for a leisurely paddle at Long Creek. Bring your kayak, stand-up paddleboard, or canoe, and get out on the water! You must provide your own watercraft. Please be sure to bring a PFD or lifejacket, sunscreen, and bottled water. Please be advised that there are no restroom facilities at Long Creek Nature Preserve, so plan ahead. Children under the age of 16 are required to have a parent/guardian accompany them on the trip and will also be required to wear a lifejacket at all times. Join our Palm Coast Youth Swim Team! Our non-competitive swim team emphasizes fun, fitness, and teamwork for all swimming abilities. We will work on proper swimming techniques and stroke development. Wednesdays – Baby Ballet – Wednesdays, 4:30-5:15pm at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. A 45-minute introductory dance class containing ballet and creative movement. Young dancers will learn the basic steps while learning how to follow directions and imitate movement in a positive environment. Engaging music is used to get these little ones inspired to dance, and enables the young dancers to use their imagination, creativity and, most of all, have fun! Wednesdays – Intro to Hip Hop and Jazz Funk – Wednesdays, 5:15-6:15pm at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. This class is a basic introduction to hip hop and jazz-funk style dance. The class will include hip hop and jazz techniques, choreography, of course, freestyle improvisation! Wednesdays – Adult Open Gym Volleyball – Wednesdays, 7-9:30pm at Indian Trails Middle School, 5505 Belle Terre Pkwy., Palm Coast. Bring your friends or meet new ones in this co-ed volleyball program. New teams are created weekly. We use two nets, with teams rotating in and out of play. One net is for competitive style play and the second net is for recreational style play. $50/person. Pinochle is a trick-taking card game typically for two to four players and played with a 48-card deck. Thursdays – Adult/Teen Rowing – Thursdays, 3:30-4:15pm at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. The City of Palm Coast and the Palm Coast Rowing Club (PCRC) have teamed up to offer middle and high school students this introductory indoor rowing development and exercise class. Thursdays – Zumba® Kids and Zumba® Kids Jr. – Thursdays, 4-4:45pm at Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Pkwy. NE. These classes are rockin’, high-energy dance parties packed with kid-friendly routines. We break down steps, add games, activities, and cultural exploration. Zumba® helps kids develop a healthy lifestyle and incorporate fitness as a natural part of children’s lives. Classes incorporate key childhood development elements such as leadership, respect, team work, confidence, self-esteem, memory, creativity, coordination, balance, and cultural awareness. The Flagler Rowing Club will keep participants energized during this hour-long, interval training class.
