Parkview Baptist will contribute $60,000 to the $66,808 project.
Due to the growth of youth sports throughout the city and more tournaments being hosted at the Indian Trails Sports Complex, a second entrance to the park has becoming a necessity, according to Palm Coast staff.
The Palm Coast City Council, at its Oct. 25 workshop, listened to a presentation on the final piece of a three-phase project to bring improvements to the complex.
The final part is a joint venture with Parkview Baptist Church to construct a second driveway into the facility. It also provides for overflow parking for the complex at some future date.
P&S Paving Inc. bid $66,808 to construct asphalt paving, curbs, striping and signage.
City Manager Jim Landon said the church will contribute $60,000 for the project.
City Council member Holsey Moorman asked Tuesday whether the church had a timeline for adding more parking.
“I would say the original timeline was 2010,” Landon said. But because of the economy, there are no immediate plans to add that parking, Landon added.
Landon also said one of the main reasons for the second entrance is safety. He said: “If you have not been out there when we have a major tournament there, I would encourage you to stop by, and you’d see why this is so badly needed.”
Other improvements to Indian Trails Sports Complex that were recently approved include the transformation of a pavilion in the northern part of the complex into a concession stand. The second approved project is to build a maintenance and storage building.
The contract to build the second entrance will come back before the City Council at a future regular meeting.
