The next workshop of the Palm Coast City Council is 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, at City Marketplace. The meeting will feature a discussion on a tentative millage rate.

City Council member Holsey Moorman, who is up for re-election this fall, encouraged everyone at the July 19 meeting to keep up to date with the budget workshops and stay informed.

“As we read the editorials, the emails coming in, it becomes very obvious that a lot of people don’t understand what’s involved in what we’re doing. A lot of people will show up on the day we’re taking a vote on the millage rate, and they want to voice their opinion, and they’re not aware of the (process),” he said.

Mayor Jon Netts, who is also up for re-election, said the city controls just 17% of the total tax bill for residents in Falgler County.

“If we’re going to reduce the burden on our taxpayers, we can’t do it alone,” he said. “We’re all in the same boat together. It’s not that we have any unique opportunities in Palm Coast. Everyone is feeling the same pressures. Everyone feels that their mandate is that they have to provide services.”

City Council member Bill Lewis added at the meeting that he would like to see a list of the millage rates for all cities in Florida, so there would be a context for the City Council to consider as it sets the city’s own millage rate this year.
