Prosecutors have filed charges for two suspects in the Nov. 4 shooting of 19-year-old Palm Coast resident Trevor Blumenfeld, who collapsed on his own doorstep after being shot in what deputies say was a drug deal gone wrong.

Prosecutors have charged Matthew Leslie Smith, 18, with attempted second-degree murder, with attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a firearm, according to court documents released from the state attorney’s office.

Matthew David Morris, 20, has been charged with attempted third-degree murder.

Smith had already been arrested and charged with attempted felony murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and Morris had been arrested and charged with accessory to aggravated battery.

Detectives said Smith fired several shots at Blumenfeld after Smith, Morris and two teenagers — Raymond M. Spencer, 16, and Cameron M. Parker, 15 — tried to rob Blumenfeld of marijuana he’d agreed to sell them.

Their plan was to drive up to Blumenfeld and snatch a plastic bag of marijuana out of his hands, and then drive off, Parker told deputies.

But Blumenfeld didn’t let go of the bag, and Smith pulled out an automatic pistol and shot at him. He missed, and Blumenfeld ran, Parker told deputies. Smith fired two more times, and one of the bullets hit Blumenfeld from behind.

Blumenfled was rushed to Halifax Medical Center in Daytona Beach for emergency surgery. He survived the shooting.
