Hurricane Dorian has both strengthened and slowed, which is changing the recommendations for evacuations and the timeframe when shelters are expected to open.

“This is going to be a long-term, multi-day storm that is going to impact our area,” Emergency Management Director Jonathan Lord said. “Stay diligent and immediately finish making preparations, because Dorian is coming.”

Residents who live in evacuation zones A and B – roughly east of Florida Park Drive and Colbert Lane – in zone F in western Flagler County where the tidal nature of Crescent and Dead Lake affect flooding, and those living in low-lying areas or mobile homes should be ready to evacuate.

Shelters are now expected to open on Sunday, Sept. 1 instead of Saturday, Aug. 31, because the storm's pace has slowed.

The Flagler County Public Library will close at noon on Saturday, and programs will be canceled. Flagler County Parks and Recreation Department is closing campsites and community centers on Sunday to make the facilities available for emergency uses if necessary. The Wickline Senior Center will be closed until further notice for the same reason.
