The city of Bunnell will soon be getting a new dog — but it won’t be just any canine.

Instead, it’ll be a police K-9, who will help the city’s police department combat crime, City Manager Larry Williams said in a news release. The police dog will be the department’s first.

“Public safety is essential to all communities, and the city of Bunnell is eager to add this new facet of police protection for our citizens,” Williams said in the news release. “The Canine Unit will provide a resource that can assist in officer and community safety and will be used to proactively support community Safe Street by identifying illegal drugs.”

The dog will be purchased and trained with money from an AT&T contribution, and will be used on Bunnell Police Department patrols, he said.
