A 21-year-old Bunnell man critically injured in a January 2016 crash that killed two young women has been charged with DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide in connection with their deaths.

Dalton Edwards, now 21 — he was 20 on Jan. 9, the date of the crash — was arrested July 22 and charged with two counts of DUI manslaughter, two counts of vehicular homicide, one count of DUI with property damage and one count of possession of alcohol by someone under 21.

Edwards was driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck west on Palatka Boulevard in the Flagler Estates area of rural western St. Johns County at about 8:40 p.m. Jan. 9 when he ran the stop sign at the intersection with Isaacson Avenue, striking a Chevy TrailBlazer driven by 20-year-old Hastings resident Victoria Sutton, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

Sutton died at Putnam Community Medical Center, and one of Edwards' two passengers, 19-year-old St. Augustine resident Katherine Stecker, died at the scene of the crash.

The second passenger in the F-150, 21-year-old Palm Coast resident Alexander Koufodontis, had minor injuries, and Edwards was hospitalized with critical injuries.

Edwards was booked at the Flagler County jail July 22 and has since been transferred to the St. Johns County jail, where he remains incarcerated on $367,518 bond.
