The members of the Bunnell, and Buddy Taylor Middle School FFA chapters have had a very busy summer. Members traveled to the 87th Florida FFA State Convention in Orlando, June 28 to July 3, where the parliamentary procedure team competed in the state competition. Team members were Christopher Caschera, Lauren Dunlap, Brittany Koshinski, Alex Lull, McKenzie Smith and Autumn Sanson.

FFA degrees awarded

Members Tori Northrip and Madison Worley received their State FFA degree, the highest degree awarded by the state association. Austin Davis was recognized as the state winner in Goat Production Proficiency for his long term Supervised Experience Program in meat goats. Austin was also introduced as a recipient of the American FFA degree to be awarded at the National FFA Convention in October. Bunnell member Paige Brewer, and BTMS members Hope Brock, Erica Samples and Zoe Sands also attended the convention. McKenzie Smith served on the convention Courtesy Corps.

At the convention, members attended sessions that included motivational speakers and award presentations, and participated in personal growth workshops. The 2015-16 state and district officers were also elected.

Forestry camp

The 85th Florida FFA Forestry Camp was July 12-17 at Oleno State Park, north of High Springs. Ryleigh Harrison spent the week with FFA members from across the state learning about forest management techniques from foresters and rangers of the Florida Forest Service. Throughout the week she participated in dendrology (tree identification), forest health, management, and fire suppression classes. The participants competed in a knowledge and skills test and Ryleigh was named Top Ten Camper. She received a Biltmore Stick and a compass.

Senior FFA officer retreat

The 2015-16 Bunnell Sr FFA officer retreat was July 25 to 28 in Astor. McKenzie Smith, Lauren Dunlap, Brittany Koshinski, Kathryn Gordon, Tuesday Lantzy, and Ryleigh Harrison, participated in teamwork building activities and planning sessions. On the 27th they traveled to Alexander Springs where they canoed.

Luncheon

FFA officers provided an informational lunch on Aug. 6 for the administration and guidance department at Flagler Palm Coast High School. The presentation illustrated how the FFA benefits students, how the administration can assist, and some plans for the year. The alumni provided lunch from Olive Garden.

As the FFA starts the school year, the team is actively planning many activities for the year. The first chapter meeting will be on Sept. 2, and the Kick Off Cook Out will be Sept.9
