Third-grade teacher Sara Smith is Bunnell Elementary School’s Teacher of the Year.

Smith has been an educator for six years, all of which at BES.

“I believe that when anyone comes into my classroom, they will immediately notice the energy and fast pace in my classroom,” she said. “My students learn from the first day that we cannot waste one second and that everything they learn is of utmost importance.”

She added that her classroom is often made up of students in various grade levels, as she believes that students working with students across several grade levels “yields high impact results.”

“Although it can get crowded, all students look forward to making new friendships, forming new bonds and even developing mentorship roles within the school that lasts years,” Smith said.

Outside of the classroom, Smith has a passion for volunteering. She serves food at local food pantries and fundraising for those in need.

“I am inspired daily by the relationships our staff has with the students we serve,” Smith said. “I am a representative of every teacher at our amazing school.”
