Ed Corcoran left his home in New England to move to Florida in 1989. He moved to Bunnell in 2006.

The friendliness of the community immediately stuck out to him.

"This is a very tight-knit community," he said. "Everybody knows everybody. We all go out of our way to help others in this community."

Corcoran became even more engrained into the community when he took over Cody's Corner, a convenience store that has been in the area since the 1970s.

Cody's Corner was a thriving business but the previous owners decided to retire. Corcoran decided to rent the property, which is located at 9480 State Road 11, to run his own store. He moved in on Jan. 1.

"I ended up inheriting a shack," he said.

To get ready for the store's grand opening, which was on Feb. 1, he, with the help of his wife and neighbors, had to update the building's infrastructure. The trip back into town for locals can be long, so Corcoran said he's going to run his business as a general store instead of a convenience store.

He's going to sell Blue Rhino propane, PVC pipe fittings, off-road diesel fuel and more.

"It just seemed like a good thing to do," he said. "It'll be as much of a hangout spot as a store."
