Coach Pete Hald begins his 21st season with the Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs soccer team.

Throughout Pete Hald’s 21 years as head coach of the Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs soccer team, he has consistently fielded a competitive team. This season should be no different.

The Lady Bulldogs finished last season with a 18-9-2 record, finishing second in the Five-Star Conference and the district to Spruce Creek. The Lady Bulldogs lost, 1-0, to Fletcher in the regional quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

Senior Haley Lademann will anchor the team in goal. She allowed 16 goals in 28 games, good for a .57 goals against average, including 14 shutouts. Miranda Campbell is back after missing 19 games last season. She scored 11 goals in the final 13 games. Victoria Martins also leads the Lady Bulldogs defense and is a threat to score, tallying six goals last season.

As a team, the Lady Bulldogs had 15 shutouts last season and only gave up two goals twice.

“We had 12 games that were either 1-0 or 1-1, and our record during those games was 3-7-2,” Hald said.

Three freshmen made the varisty squad, and Hald said they will see playing time early. Those freshmen are Christen Barney, Josie Davis and Cara Warren.

FPC will play a 4-4-2, meaning four defenders, four midfielders and two forwards, though Hald will occasionally switch the formation to a 4-3-3.

“This fits us better because of our defense-first philosophy,” Hald said.

As usual, Hald stacked his schedule with tough games.

“Hopefully those games will prepare us for the district and state tournament,” he said. “We had a challenge last year scoring goals. Hopefully with Miranda (Campbell) back, and adding these freshmen, plus Sarah Diloreto, we can finish better.”

Diloreto had 10 goals last year.
