A new coach leads the Lady Bulldogs into a new district.

Flagler Palm Coast Lady Bulldogs finished 9-6 last season.

This season, they are in District 6 with Pedro Menendez, St. Augustine and Matanzas.

Coach James Hackett takes over in his first season with the Lady Bulldogs.

FPC didn’t lose many seniors from last year’s team. This year’s team is balanced with a good midfield and attack, as well as one of the top goalies in the United States.

Katie Kastner anchors the team between the pipes. In November 2011, Kastner signed a National Letter of Intent to play lacrosse at Jacksonville University, a Division I school in Jacksonville. Kastner was the captain of the Lady Bulldogs for the 2010 season, and was ranked No. 15 in the country in the ESPN Top 150 for high school girls lacrosse goalies.

Last season, Kastner was an Academic All-American and an Under Armour All-American.

“She’s the leader of the defense,” Hackett said. “It’s like having another coach out on the field.”

Kastner has missed a few games with an injury, but Hackett expects her to be back for the March 2 game against University or the March 6 game, which is a district matchup against Pedro Menendez.

Cassie Crain (senior, attack/midfield) will also lead the Lady Bulldogs. Juniors Kim Ramirez and Nicole Maselena and freshman Kelly Kastner will be key players for Hackett.

The Lady Bulldogs rely on their attack and midfield.

“They are athletic and can run,” Hackett said.

As a team, FPC needs to improve on getting after ground balls, catching and throwing, Hackett said.
