The following is an adapted news release from the Flagler County School District:

A Buddy Taylor 8th grader was riding his bike to school the morning of Sept. 21 when a Flagler Schools school bus struck him in a crosswalk in front of Belle Terre Park along Parkview Drive.

The crash happened just after 7 a.m., and the boy was taken to Florida Hospital Flagler with minor injuries.

The driver of the school bus — bus number  20104 — has been cited for failing to yield in a crosswalk, and is on administrative leave pending an internal investigation.

“Our response team was immediately activated," Flagler Schools Superintendent Jacob Oliva said. "School administrators were on the scene quickly and the student was taken to the hospital as a precautionary measure. A team of counselors has been sent to Buddy Taylor Middle School as well.”

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the accident.
