Bridges over the Intracoastal Waterway closed at midnight and will be closed until weather conditions improve, according to a news release from the Flagler County government.
“We have to close the bridges for safety reasons once wind speeds reach 45 mph, which we anticipate will happen at midnight,” Flagler County Deputy Fire Chief Joe King said in the news release. “It is important for residents to know we won’t have the ability to send out our first responders should individuals need assistance.”
A curfew is in effect until noon Monday. Once the winds die down, this will give Public Works teams and FPL crews an opportunity to assess conditions, handle downed electric lines, and removed debris and other hazards from the roadways.
“We cannot stress enough how important it is for everyone to be safe and stay safe,” County Administrator Craig Coffey. “We will be working diligently to get everything back to normal as quickly as possible.”
