Book-sharing library opens at Palm Coast Community Center

Literary enthusiasts rejoice! A new way for readers to explore books is available at the Palm Coast Community Center through the concept of the Free Little Library, a nonprofit that builds community, inspires readers, and expands book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led little libraries.

The library is stained walnut in color and is about the size of a bird house. Books are placed inside of it and are free to borrow. The idea is to take one and leave one. Book donations are also accepted. It is located in the playground area of the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE.

“Even though this concept is not new, we at the city of Palm Coast Parks and Recreation are always striving to provide new and exciting opportunities for Palm Coast residents,” said Outdoor Recreation Manager James Hirst. “This Free Little Library provides children and adults a chance to relax and read a book while enjoying our beautiful parks.”

Parks maintenance employees Eddie Jensen and Humberto Alicea designed and built the library. Once they saw the idea, they recognized the opportunity for residents and realized the benefits it would bring to our community. They expanded on the original design provided by Free Little Library and created it to look like a house, with siding, roof shingles, and making it waterproof.
