Ocean Art Gallery to host "Fabulous Florida" art show

Ocean Art Gallery, located at 206 Moody Blvd. in Flagler Beach, is hosting an art opening reception on April 7 for 13 of Florida’s award-winning plein air and studio artists who will showcase their unique art styles in an exhibit titled “Fabulous Florida,” according to a news release.

The reception will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. but will be preceded by six artist presentations from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

It will be the first time the artists, who have been together at various plein air paint outs throughout the state, have assembled for a gallery in Flagler County. Gallery owner Frank Gromling saw an opportunity to bring the artists to the county and asked artist Tom Sadler for help getting it started.

All 13 artists are recognized for their award-winning artwork in oil, acrylic and pastel, with each of them garnering sales in major art events, such as Wekiva, Forgotten Coast, Paradise, Polasek Museum and New Smyrna Beach. Plein air painting, or painting outdoors, has a long history extending from the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

The artists in this exhibit, which will end with a closing party on May 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., will be Trish Beckham, John Caggiano, Kathleen Chenet, Priscilla Coote, Charles Dickinson, Rebecca Eagan, Cynthia Edmonds, Sally Evans, Martha Lent, Peter Pettegrew, Morgan Samuel Price, Gary Rupp and Sadler. Each artist will have up to three pieces of art in the exhibit. Their different mediums, styles, and subjects will showcase their talents in one of the most attractive displays of plein air and studio art ever assembled in Flagler County.

For more information or to make a reservation for the artist presentations, call 386-693-4882.

The reception and afternoon presentations are free and open to the public. Free parking is available behind the gallery building.
