+ Chamber, Young Professionals: Flagler Votes
The Flagler County Chamber of Commerce & Affiliates and the Young Professionals Group of Flagler County recently launched Flagler Votes, an information campaign to increase local voter turnout.

Modeled after other grassroots efforts such as MTV’s “Rock the Vote,” Flagler Votes will utilize social media outlets and community appearances, August through November, to operate its campaign.

“The more informed we are, the better decisions we can make come election time, and the more favorable outcome we can expect for the community.” said Doug Baxter, chamber president.

“A great way to bring about positive change in any community is to make sure your voice is heard at election time,” said Harmony Henry, YPG chairwoman.

A political forum for all City Council candidates will take place 5 p.m. Aug. 23, at the Hilton Garden Inn.

+ Staples recognizes Flagler County teachers
A once-a-year event organized by Staples Copy Center Specialist Linda West, Teacher Appreciation Day drew more than 150 teachers, Aug. 13, to the Staples Office Superstore in Palm Coast. Each teacher was given free gift bags at the door, loaded with school supplies and coupons. Gift certificates and door prizes were also awarded, donated by local businesses.

The event takes three months for West to organize, she said, but it’s well worth the time.

“It’s a great event,” she said. “I love doing it. It lets the teachers know that you appreciate all they do,” she said.

The following businesses donated gift certificates for door prizes: Cypress Golf Course, Days Inn, Flagler Fish Company, Houligan’s, Janice Gussman from Tupperware, Golden Corral, Cracker Barrel, Denny’s and Bob Evans.
