On Wednesday, May 4, Flagler County Airport Director Roy Sieger responded to a request from the Flagler County Sheriff’s office to assist in a single-engine plane crash in western Flagler County.
The crash occurred around 3 p.m. when an experimental biplane, owned and piloted by John Roderick, 66, of Ponte Vedra Beach, crash-landed a quarter mile west of Water Oak Road in Flagler County. Roderick landed in the tree tops of a highly wooded patch of pine trees. Injury-free, he walked away from the crash.
Sieger said the engine’s two fuel pumps both failed to operate, and the plane went down. Roderick was returning to St. Augustine Airport after a trip to Pierson earlier in the day.
The Florida Aviation Administration has been contacted and will investigate the crash.
