Palm Coast might get a new, 150-foot monopole telecommunications tower near Fire Station 23, on Belle Terre Parkway south of Royal Palms Parkway.
"This is good news for anybody who has AT&T and drives down Belle Terre, and it always gets cut off right at the fire station," City Manager Jim Landon said during an Aug. 14 City Council workshop.
AT&T was interested in adding its hardware to an existing tower in that area, but the current tower is a flagpole-style one that AT&T didn't favor due to tech issues with that particular design. So Diamond Towers offered to build a new tower, move over the two carriers on the existing tower to the new one, and add AT&T, Landon said. The old tower would be torn down.
"The two carriers, because we own the current tower, we will get 100% of the revenue from those two carriers, so our revenue stays the same," Landon said. "Any new carriers, then it would be the typical agreement we have where Diamond gets 60%, we get 40% of the revenue."
Because there would only be two new carriers, the city has offered to cut its initial lease of $25,000 for the land down to $12,500, Landon said. The initial lease term would be five years, with the option to extend it for nine five-year periods.
The new tower will allow for both 800 MHz and 900 MHz, Landon said.
