Twelve contestants battled for the title of Buddy Taylor Middle School Idol Wednesday, Oct. 24. After the contestant pool had been narrowed to five by a panel of three judges, audience members casted their ballots.

Ashia Barnes was named the 2012 Buddy Taylor Middle School Idol.

“Everyone competing here tonight is already a winner,” teacher Ann Paris said, of the 12 contestants who made the show through an audition process.

Skylar Lovelady won first runner-up and Kyle Jester won second runner-up. Stormy Branning and Samantha Shumaker were also in the top five.

Other contestants were Sarah Alcindor, Brittany Franklin, Caitlin Gilbert, Lacey Jackson, Ashley Flores, Paul Milonas and Mackenzie Moore.

As Idol, Barnes will represent the school at all upcoming concerts and functions.
