Baseball cards, pocket watches, a 19th-century electric chair and a vampire killing kit. These items have one thing in common: The Ohio Valley Refinery & Roadshow.

The roadshow, which travels around the world to buy antiques and rare items from regular joes and then sell them to collectors, has never been to Palm Coast before this week.

But since July 26, the group has been set up at the Holiday Inn Express, near Interstate 95 and State Road 100, to spend about $300,000 on Flagler County residents’ stuff.

Media relations specialist Brittany Thomas said the roadshow also has purchased letters written by and to past U.S. presidents, including a letter from a doctor who helped Abraham Lincoln’s wife, Mary Todd.

“We work with our collectors to see who can pay you the most money,” Thomas said. “You can bring in as many items as you want. There’s no obligation if you don’t want to sell it.”

It’s free admission. The roadshow is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 30. Then, it will be open next week 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and then again 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 6.

The roadshow has been in existence since 1996 and opens up shop in 90 cities per week around the world.
