The Florida Animal Control Association recently added a name well known in Flagler County to its board of directors – Amy Carotenuto, director of Flagler Humane Society.
“They approached me and I sent them my resume,” Carotenuto said.
Carotenuto was appointed to a vacated position that has two years left in the term. Her first meeting was on Thursday, March 10. The board meets quarterly at one of the member’s shelters.
“The shelter is a member of FACA and animal service officers and staff training is provided by them,” Carotenuto said. “We also go to the annual education conferences.”
Carotenuto sees the appointment as a way to help more animals and provide the county and cities with the best information.
“Now I will be even more update on current legislation,” Carotenuto said. “We are at a place now at the shelter where I can go out and make
a difference in more than ‘this cat or that dog.’ Hopefully I can help change not only local ordinances but also have input with state laws.”
“It’s no longer the ‘dog catcher mentality.’ We have improved methods and professionals for animal services,” Carotenuto said.
