An investigation that spanned over a year has finally come to an end.
Working off the claim of a 15-year-old girl who reported that she was sexually molested while at a sleepover in June of 2016, detectives of the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office’s Special Investigations Unit were able to determine that two 15-year-olds had been sexually molested or battered by the same defendant, according to a news release by the Sheriff’s Office.
One victim told deputies she had been a victim of the defendant, 46-year-old Michael Craig Bowling, for almost seven years, according to the release.
A Flagler Sheriff’s detective conducted multiple interviews and sent a DNA analysis of Bowling and evidence collected at the scene to the FDLE lab. The DNA results eventually matched the evidence to Bowling.
Bowling was arrested on Dec. 8 and is being held at the Campbell County Detention Center without bond and will soon be extradited to the Flagler County Detention Facility. Bowling faces charges of three counts of sexual battery, three counts of lewd and lascivious conduct, lewd and lascivious battery on a child, lewd and lascivious exhibition in the presence of a child and battery on a child.
“This type of behavior is sickening, but I’m proud of the victims for coming forward and telling the truth before he could hurt others,” Sheriff Rick Staly said in a release.
