American Association of University Women Flagler hosted its monthly meeting on Saturday, Dec. 11, at Cypress Knoll Golf and Country Club, listening to a performance of the Formality Singers and collecting toys for Toys for Tots.

The Formality Singers, a mixed-voiced chorus composed of students from Flagler Palm Coast High School, and the Women’s Formality Singers Chorus, was originally started 25 years ago by Alana Fitzgerald and continued under Amelia Fulmer and now Ester Jackson.

AAUW Flagler Branch Co-President Marty Butler arranged for the branch to participate in the Marine Corps Toys for Tots Program this year. The generosity of branch members was in full display as the cardboard box used to collect the toys was filled to overflowing. The toys will be distributed to needy children in Flagler County.

To round out the festivities, members participated in an ugly sweater contest. The winner, Lorrie Blue-Angle, dug way back into her closet for a sweater that she actually wore during the 1980s.

AAUW Flagler meets monthly September through May on the second Saturday of the month. The branch actively works to fulfill its mission of advancing the education of women and girls in Flagler County and elsewhere. New members are welcome. For more information visit the AAUW Flagler website flaglercounty-fl.aauw.net or e-mail [email protected]
