Six Flagler Palm Coast High School students removed from school in connection with a “detailed plan to conduct a coordinated plot” Sept. 7 are still barred from returning to campus as detectives investigate.
None has been charged with a crime, and the investigation is ongoing.
The six boys, who were questioned at the school Sept. 7, were then removed from campus on a five-day “administrative excusal” — barred form campus, but not being penalized for the time missed.
That administrative excusal period has been extended as deputies continue to investigate, Flagler Schools Behavior and Discipline Coordinator Tim King said after a School Board meeting Sept. 21.
“We’re still working through it all,” King said. “As a district, we’re in constant communication with law enforcement.”
The threat investigation began when a bomb threat was emailed to Bunnell Elementary School from an FPC student’s email account.
That bomb threat turned out to be a hoax, but it led investigators to information on a plot against the high school. Detectives confiscated the boys’ school-issued laptops to conduct a forensic investigation.
A Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said that it was not clear if the students had been serious about the threat against the high school. "This really sounds like students who were goofing around, but we are being very thorough and making sure that there's not a serious threat,” Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Laura Williams said.
