Whatever doubts remained that Eddie Johnson hadn’t returned to form can now be eliminated.

Johnson was named the 2012 MLS Comeback Player of the Year on Tuesday — an award that’s voted on by media, MLS players and MLS club management based on regular season performance.

Johnson won the same award in 2007.

In his first full season back playing in the U.S., Johnson tallied 16 goals (17 in all competitions) and two assists, leading the Seattle Sounders to the Western Conference finals.

Johnson took to his Twitter account Tuesday morning: “Wanna thank the people who made this award a reality for me. To the entire Sounders organization, thank you for a great season.”

After replying to a few fans on Twitter, he added: “Oh yeah, and most importantly, I share this award with all my fans. Thanks for the continued support. #hardworkdedication”

Johnson’s resurgence has also reignited his hopes of making the U.S. Men’s National Team for FIFA 2014 World Cup.

Last month, Johnson netted two goals, including the game-winner, in a World Cup qualifying match against Antigua and Barbuda.

“I want to share this award with the kids in Bunnell and Flagler County,” Johnson said. “That dreams are real if you work toward them.”

I said before, and I'll say it again: Eddie Johnson is back.
