Full moon will bring party, drink specials to Johnny D’s
There’s a full moon Sept. 28, and Johnny D’s Beach Bar & Grill is throwing a party to honor the occasion.
To celebrate, the bar will offer $5 pints of Blue Moon beer, which come with a free commemorative glass. Local rock, blues and country band, 5 O’Clock Charlie, will provide live entertainment starting at 5 p.m. Drink specials start at 8 p.m.
The oceanside bar finished construction of a front patio Sept. 15 to complement its large, dog-friendly deck, so views of the moon will be in easy access the night of the party.
But that’s not enough expansion for John Davis, owner of Johnny D’s, which opened in February. He’s currently accepting bids for an addition to his outdoor deck, which will include a second level. Davis hopes to start construction in December.
“I closed my bars in Jacksonville and moved here to retire,” Davis said. “But after a year of doing nothing, I couldn’t stay away.”
Johnny D’s is at 1005 N. Oceanshore Blvd. Call 693-4814.
Perkins introduces limited-time breakfast menu
A loaded baked potato pancake platter: It’s not a dish encountered often, but it’s one of several limited-edition breakfast options offered as of Monday at Perkins Family Restaurant & Bakery.
The baked potato platter comes with a stack of three baked potato pancakes. Between each pancake is a layer of cheddar cheese and bacon bits. Atop the stack sits sour cream. You can buy this platter, which comes with eggs, a choice of hash browns or breakfast potatoes, and a choice of sausage links, a sausage patty or bacon strips for $8.29.
“It’s not traditional,” said Justin Fagan, an assistant manager at the restaurant. “But it’s really good.”
The special breakfast menu will be available for two to three months, though no official end date for the promotion has been selected yet.
Other platter options, which also come with the egg, potato and meet choices, include banana foster pancakes for $7.99, pumpkin spice oatmeal pancakes for $6.99 and strawberry blackberry pancakes for $7.79.
Perkins is at 1000 Palm Coast Parkway N.W. Call 446-7747.
