Flagler County seventh-graders can receive free Tdap shots, thanks to the Flagler County Health Department and Flagler County Public Schools.
The free clinic will occur 3-5:30 p.m. Aug. 8, at Indian Trails Middle School. Parents should bring shot records, a state photo ID and insurance cards. For appointments, call Gaetana Carroll 437-7350, Ext. 2219. For vaccine questions, call Nurse Bonnie Welter 437-7350, Ext. 2226.
According to the Center for Disease Control: “Tdap vaccine is recommended for preteens at ages 11 or 12 for protection against tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (whooping cough). Protection provided by the DTaP vaccine received in childhood wears off as kids get older, so preteens and teens need a booster shot known as Tdap. Getting this booster not only protects preteens and teens, but also the people around them — especially little babies and elders. Those 13- to 18-year-olds who haven't gotten the Tdap shot yet should talk with their parents and their doctor about getting it now.”
BACK TO SCHOOL JAM
Also don’t forget the Back to School Jam. The event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 4, at Flagler Palm Coast High School. It’s a tax-free sales day, and there will be free immunizations and free bike helmets. Sign up by calling the Flagler County Health Department at 437-7350, Ext. 2219.
Backpacks will be $5, while supplies last. School uniforms will be on sale at a discount, and there will be information about after-school art, dance and sports classes. Greg “DJBizzi” Bruce from will be there, as well.
