The Flagler County School Board ironed out its new uniforms policy yesterday, Jan. 25, in a workshop. Jeans, they decided, would be acceptable, as long as they’re blue or black, and without any tears, holes or frays. Collars will be mandatory. Flip flops will be permissible to only high schoolers.

After seeing what Flagler’s school uniforms will look like, how has your opinion on the policy changed?

  • I understand why a school board official is elected, but I can assure you this, you all as a school board have over stepped your bounds, morally and ethically. Your telling me there is sufficient physical evidence a child wearing a uniform will perform better or will be better versed to enter the real world? If this were the case, this would be the big selling point for private schools, and I am sure every public school in the nation would require uniforms. People choose to send their children to public schools for specific reasons, one of which is not go have their child in a uniform.

Basically, an adult is now expressing a child's expressions, or eliminating the child to imagine and test the waters with expression. I believe adults think more rules are necessary, but you yield no factual reason for why the rule is necessary and furthermore, cost us taxpayers more money for your obtuse decision making ability. You as an adult have the right to your own expression, entitled to you by the constitution of the United States. Just because they are minors does not mean you should treat them like criminals and make them conform to 4-5 people's standards, or what the 4 or 5 people think is a standard. What is next, segregate the kids again? Maybe make all the kids practice Christianity as part of graduation requirement in Flagler County? Do you see how stupid this sounds along with your uniform requirement!

This should send a message to all voters who have kids in Flagler County schools who oppose the uniforms; this entire board should be voted out. Regardless if they opposed the uniforms, they allowed the discussions and did not take necessary action to prevent this.

I can not stand it when elected people over step their boundaries. It is times like this that make these drastic actions necessary. The checks and balances of this are the voters hitting the reset button. Stopping this before it snow balls out of control. You people should be ashamed of your decision. You should have talked to the constituents! The mass majority people I have spoken with about this have opposed this from the beginning!
