Body found behind Walmart identified as local man

Investigators have the man found dead in a canal behind Walmart July 4 as 25-year-old Palm Coast resident Mathew Talacko.

“The investigation revealed that Talacko was reported missing by relatives on July 2 and that he has a history of narcotics use,” according to a Sheriff’s Office news release issued July 8. “The cause of death has not been determined, however, no foul play is suspected in this case.”

Someone had called the Sheriff’s Office at about 10:34 a.m. July 4 to report a body behind the Walmart on Cypress Point Parkway, and deputies established a crime scene and began an investigation, but found no identification. For previous coverage of this story, click here.
