People helping people: Goodwill and gratitude in Palm Coast

One of Flagler County’s business leaders, Mark Langello, recently sent a letter to the Palm Coast Observer. It’s another great example of people helping people in our community. He wrote:

“A couple of weeks ago, about noon time, I was turning from Cypress Point Parkway onto Palm Coast Parkway after loading up my pickup with lumber, cement and assorted building materials. My materials weren’t secure enough, and the entire load slid out of my tailgate onto the parkway. There was so much material that it completely blocked the traffic in three directions.

“The woman in the car behind me honked her horn and pulled into the center of the intersection and blocked traffic from entering the scene. I quickly backed up and got out to pick up my material, and this kind woman jumped out of her car. I was expecting her to demand my license for a citizen’s arrest, but, to my surprise, she rushed over to the material and began to pick stuff up and run it to my truck.

“Another kind man at the red light, waiting to turn, got out of his truck and also helped me. I didn’t ask for this assistance, but they both worked hard to help me with my mess. It took several minutes and at least a complete series of red light changes to reload my truck.

“While the considerable traffic at that time of day was halted in three directions, no one in any car honked their horns or tried to drive through this; they were kind enough to watch, and wait.

“One notable thing: The kind woman who hustled the material into my truck kept picking up the heaviest material — mostly the 60-pound bags of concrete instead of the much lighter material — and she didn't walk with the sacks, she ran with the stuff!

“I thanked them quickly as each went back to their vehicles, but I wanted to publicly thank them again (whoever they are) and let the community know that we have good people everywhere here. Thank you all!”

Thanks for the letter, Mark! If you have stories about helping or being helped, send me an email at [email protected].
