+ Caffeine Bistro and Wine Bar: New look, new name, new management

Big changes are brewing at Caffeine Bistro and Wine Bar, on West Granada Boulevard.
Under new ownership and with the indoor portion of the restaurant currently closed for remodeling, the company will reopen in August as Grind Gastropub and Kona Tiki Bar. The outdoor tiki bar, which got its own renovation, complete with a new roof, about two months ago, is open while the construction dust is still settling.

The new direction, led by new owner Kevin Wakefield, will be based on the London-style “gastropub” theme, which bypasses simple bar food for more offbeat options.

But it’s not just the name and menu that are going to change. Inside, a couple of walls have been removed to open up the space. The décor will include lively pop art, antique brick walls, hardwood floors and turn-of-the-century light fixtures.

“It will be a rustic and comfortable feel, not pretentious,” Wakefield said. “But you’ll get the quality of food you find at pretentious restaurants.”

The Kona Tiki Bar will retain its casual atmosphere, though. In addition to the new roof, four flat-screen TVs and 20 new draft beers have been added, making it a “true garden pub,” Wakefield said.

“With two unique venues at one location, we hope to give the people of Ormond Beach a place to get an amazing meal or cocktail and feel comfortable, whether in flip flops or a suit.” Wakefield said.

Grind Gastropub and Kona Tiki Bar will be open 11 a.m. to midnight Sunday through Wednesday, and until 2 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, starting next month. Until then, the restaurant opens at 1 p.m. for lunch every day, noon Sundays.

+ Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q rebrands

Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q is by tapping in to its roots.

On July 16, the restaurant chain unveiled its revamped branding, which includes a new name, logo, décor and prototype restaurant. The changes are designed to change the 45-year-old restaurant’s image to a showplace for barbeque culture and cuisine.

Sonny’s executives said the rebranding is also an attempt to create future expansion opportunities. For example, the restaurant hopes to raise the profile of Sonny’s pit masters by bringing them out of the kitchen and into the spotlight.

The company’s new logo highlights the company’s “local pit masters since ’68.” Eventually, there will be a certified pit master at each restaurant location, said Dominic Losacco, marketing vice president for Sonny’s.
