Five of nine races are in the books for the city’s running series. Next: May 5.
With five races down and another four to go, the Palm Coast Race Series has gotten off to a fast start in its first year.
Lisa Gardner, events coordinator for the city, helped come up with the idea last summer. She said the series has gotten plenty of positive feedback in its first year.
“Runners who traveled distances to join races in other cities are now staying right here in their own hometown,” Gardner said. “This is a real plus for the city’s economy ... the good feelings people have about how the city supports their running passion and their good health.”
Bob Hamlin, who currently leads the 60 to 64 age group, said he expects the series to continue to gain momentum and include more runners from outside of Palm Coast and Flagler County.
“I would encourage anyone who jogs recreationally to take that first step and enter one of the races,” Hamlin said.
