Six Flagler Bushido Club fighters won their fights June 8, at a Daytona Beach event.
Fighters in Flagler Bushido Club went into the Friday, June 8, Breakthrough MMA event in Daytona Beach with a lot of expectations.
When it was all over, six fighters left as winners and the team made a lasting impression on the mixed martial arts community.
The team originally sent nine fighters to the event, but four of the fighters had their opponents back out.
In total, Flagler Bushido went 6-for-6 in its fights. One fighter, Mark Kes, set the Breakthrough MMA record for fastest knockout when he landed one punch and knocked out his opponent in the first five seconds.
Flagler Bushido becomes the first team to win six fights in one night at Breakthrough MMA.
“These guys train hard — about five to six days a week — and train different from anyone else around,” coach Reese Hall said. “We have so many natural training resources around like the beach, nature trails, the Flagler Beach bridge, and so much support from the community, it’s no wonder they have so much confidence.”
David Nobrega and Nick LeBlanc each won their respective fights and will advance to the next round, which will take place Aug. 17.
In addition, Johnny Barrett, Isaiah Gutierrez, Philip Rowe, Nobrega and LeBlanc will fight June 30, in St. Augustine.
Hall said Flagler Bushido supporters were out in full force, too.
“The noise was unbelievable, and the energy when people were chanting ‘Flagler Bushido Club’ when we fought was deafening,” he said. “It was unlike anything we have ever encountered.”

• Philip Rowe (Matanzas) won via total knockout in the first round.
• David Nobrega (FPC) won via rear naked choke in 35 seconds of the first round. This puts Nobrega in title contention. He will fight for the title Aug. 17.
• Lee Dawson (Matanzas) won via arm bar in the second round.
• Tommy Oetting (Matanzas) won via guillotine choke in the second round.
• Mark Kes (FPC) won via knockout in five seconds, setting a new Breakthrough MMA record.
• Nick LeBlanc won via unanimous decision. He will compete in the semifinals Aug. 17.
