District welcomes teachers back to school

Some of the reasons people become teachers, as stated by David Letterman, are that kids keep you hip, you get free apples and you are able to spend leisurely summers in intensive therapy to recover enough strength for the new school year.

That summer in now over, and Flagler County teachers gathered Monday, Aug. 13, at Flagler Palm Coast High School, for a back-to-school celebration.

“It’s really about bringing everybody together so they can see we’re part of a big organization,” said Sabrina Crosby, special projects coordinator for the district. “We’ve got a great group of educators coming together to welcome each other back and get ready for the new school year, and have breakfast together.”

After sharing breakfast, which was provided by Food Services and served by School Board members, teachers gathered in the auditorium for a presentation of new teachers and a back-to-school pep talk by Superintendent Janet Valentine.

“I am proud to be the superintendent of a district so blessed with individuals willing and dedicated to teach and serve,” she told the full audience.

Matanzas High School dance teacher Jeanna Reiter said she thinks the school year should be started like this every year.

“It feels more like a team,” she said.
