We opened Captain’s BBQ in 2011 with a vision to transform an existing county building at Bing’s Landing into a place where local families, boaters and tourists could enjoy great-tasting BBQ food in a natural, scenic and peaceful setting.
Seven years later, we are grateful to our patrons, our community and to our employees for helping our vision come to life.
We are humbled by the fact that Captain’s BBQ has become a point of destination for thousands of our local friends, customers and tourists who visit Flagler County. We are all on the map together!
Mike and Grace Goodman and Chris Herrera are local residents who live within minutes of the park.
We’ve established a track record of giving back to our community.
Throughout the years, we’ve made significant, on-going reinvestments to improve the existing building including dining room remodels, kitchen upgrades and new equipment. Unfortunately, some elements of the building, which is owned by the county, have degraded structurally and can no longer be repaired.
In order to continue to serve our valued customers and the thousands of tourists who visit our location, constructing a new building is the only viable solution that the county proposed.
Our proposed building design and site plan treat every aspect of the environment and the park’s beautiful setting with the utmost respect and sensitivity.
The proposed new building will be positioned just to the right of the existing building or to a viable alternate location on Bing’s Landing. Our goal is to preserve and add to the number of existing trees while enhancing the view to the waterway and improving all amenities and comfort for residents, diners and visitors.
Our proposed plan is to remove one small oak tree and four cabbage palms. Post construction, those will be replaced with ten oak trees, ten cabbage palms and five native palms.
The proposed architectural design for the new building is a Florida Cracker-style building.
We support turning the site where the existing building sits into green space for everyone to enjoy.
Captain’s will pay for the new building. The new building will remain the property of Flagler County.
In addition to rent payments due to the county, Captain’s will incur a cost of approximately $7,100 per month to service the loan for the new building.
Captain’s will assume all liabilities associated with the use of the building. Currently, the county is liable for any claims that may arise.
Captain’s will assume maintenance costs and insurance costs — currently being paid by Flagler County. This will save Flagler County thousands of dollars.
Captain’s has and will continue to pay all utility costs and licenses.
The new and improved building will likely result in additional revenue for Flagler County in the form of sales taxes.
Good jobs will be preserved, and, if sales increase, new jobs will be created for Flagler County residents.
Captain’s BBQ is known as a place where business meetings take place and where local residents come to enjoy our unique setting and experience the delicious BBQ entrees in a relaxed and beautiful setting.
Tourists who return annually to visit our beaches and enjoy our weather always look for Captain’s BBQ as a must-stop to satisfy their craving for the unique, rich and savory taste of our food and our warm friendship.
