Friday, Jan. 18 began eight days of prayer for Christian unity, in union with all Christians.
This year’s universal theme is “What does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?” (Micah 6: 6-8).
Locally, the main annual event of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is the Fourth Flagler Churches Together in Prayer and Song, 1-3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, 915 N. Central Ave., Flagler Beach. Participating this year are seven choirs, two soloists, and a special duet with the Rev. Al Esposito, of Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church, on the violin and the Rev. Beth Gardner, of the United Methodist Church of Bunnell, on flute.
The event is open to all and is free of charge. Voluntary love donations will go to Family Promise of Flagler County.

Other events during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity are:
Celebration of the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — 10 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at First Church of Palm Coast, 91 Old Kings Road N. The service is titled “Gods Laws of Liberation.” There will be special music and the Rev. Gillard Glover will preach how God uses change agents like Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Celebration of the Martin Luther King Day — 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, at Mount Calvary Baptist Church, 75 Pine Lakes Parkway S.
A discussion on the Catholic-Lutheran joint statement on “The Hope for Eternal Life” — 7 p.m. Wednesday Jan. 23, at St. Mark by the Sea Lutheran Church, 303 Palm Coast Parkway N.E. Jointly led by the Rev. Al Esposito and the Rev. Pam Northrup.
