Palm Coast resident Vernell Eugene Dixon killed in single-car crash on State Road 11

Dixon had been reported missing earlier in the day by his wife.

Palm Coast resident Vernell Eugene Dixon, 45, died April 23 in a single-car crash on State Road 11.

Dixon had been reported missing at about 7 a.m. that morning by his wife, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The crash happened at about 11:16 a.m. Dixon was driving south in a 2016 Mazda CX-5 sports utility vehicle on S.R. 11 north of County Road 304 when the car left the road, entered the grassy shoulder and struck a tree.

Two people, one of them an off-duty paramedic, stopped to try to help. Dixon died at the scene of the crash, according to the news release.
