+ Seven Mia Bella dancers get Hollywood scholarship
Seven Mia Bella dancers were awarded partial scholarships to go to Los Angeles for a dance program.
The program they will be attending, the Hollywood Summer Tour, gives the girls a chance to be seen by agents, have professional headshots and a dance reel made. They could also appear in a music video.
“It is very prestigious to even be invited, let alone on scholarship,” said Mia Bella owner Brie Valenti.
Girls attending are Brianna O’Brien, 14, Emmary Wolff, 15, Jazmyne Valenti, 12, Kari Dutton, 14, Cayla Skeete, 9, Shayna Mayes, 8, and Caroline Rizzo, 9.
+ Thirteen-year-old girl joins Teens-In-Flight
Elizabeth Starke, 13, has been accepted into the Teens-In-Flight program.
Starke is the daughter of U.S. Army Spc. 1st Class Ronald Starke. The elder Starke is a former Marine sergeant who was seriously injured in Iraq and is medically retired from the military.
“Elizabeth is a sharp student,” said Col. Jack Howell, the program’s founder. “We are confident that she will do well in the program.”
Teens-In-Flight is a 501(c)3 foundation formed to support the families of military through aerospace education.

+ Girl Scout Junior Troop 1515 earns Bronze Award
Girl Scout Junior Troop 1515, of Palm Coast, recently completed all of the requirements to earn its Bronze Award. This is the first of the three highest awards that girls can earn in Girl Scouts.
In order to earn the Bronze Award, the girls had to decide on a need to fill, determine how to fill that need and then they had to implement the fulfillment of the need.
After much deliberation, these 10- and 11-year-old Girl Scouts decided they wanted to make a difference in the lives of the elderly of Flagler County. They worked on this project many months and focused their efforts on the residents of Concorde Loving Care, Gentle Care 1, 2 & 3 and Las Palmas Assisted Living Facilities, in Palm Coast.
They sang Christmas carols last year at multiple facilities, and they also made crafts to share with the residents.
The final element of the plan was to make and deliver homemade goodies to the residents of the assisted-living facilities for Grandparents Day.
The Girl Scouts will participate in a districtwide Girl Scout ceremony Dec. 2, in Gainesville, acknowledging their hard work and will be given the Bronze Award.
+Hispanic American Club to offer scholarship
The Hispanic American Club gives out scholarships to worthy students in Flagler County every year. In 2013, they plan to give out three scholarships to our students. Applications are available at the guidance counselor office at both Flagler County high schools, and must be returned by March 1.
These scholarships are available to all students.
